Many painful conditions within the body are due to a loss of alignment, and stability. The body is one functional unit, not an accumulation of parts, therefore when one part is affected and alignment is lost, the whole body becomes involved as part of an ‘adaptive and compensatory mechanism’ to stay upright and functional. These compensations cause pressure and uneven wear and tear of certain joints, muscular and ligamentous imbalances and spinal misalignments, putting pressure on nerves and causing crowding and dysfunction of the organs which are housed in the skeletal structure, leading to the onset of aches and pain and a deterioration in health.
Above is a healthy posture and some of the possible areas of dysfunction caused through misalignments.
Because of this, misalignments can cause problems ranging from, headaches nerve entrapment, digestive and urinary conditions, bulging discs, muscular conditions such a muscular spasms, tendonitis, and many more often leading to joint operation procedures or even replacement. Our approach focuses on treating the whole body and the underlying structural faults which are responsible for causing the symptoms, not just where the symptoms are presenting. On your first visit a detailed personal history will be taken, along with an assessment of your alignment status. A score of your overall alignment and weight distribution will be recorded. This will be monitored as you move through the process of realignment. Our techniques are specifically designed to assess and treat the whole body, and include assessments such as; functional muscle tests, orthopaedic tests, and coordination and reflex tests to ensure that a person is properly aligned and uprightly efficient against the forces of gravity.
After appraising your needs your practitioner will start the ‘balance’ or treatment, which will be specifically tailored to the needs of your body, each time. The techniques utilised will range from the very gentle, to the more firm depending on the age, health and needs of the client. Many forms of ‘health care’ focus on treating a condition after you have became sick or injured, however we are rarely educated on how to prevent against injuries, illnesses and disease before they occur and how to maintain our own good health and wellbeing. Our belief is that everyone should receive maintenance or preventative treatment of their spine and alignment on a regular basis as part of your own good health plan, alongside proper diet and nutrition, movement/ exercise, and correct breathing. ‘Prevention is better than Cure’. During your treatment you will be given advice and ideas on how to become part of your own health solution, how to help improve and maintain your own health, and increase your body’s own defences against injury, illness, and the ever-growing lifestyle induced diseases, which are becoming more and more part of our daily lives. This is covered in depth on our website www.orthobalance.co.uk
Our body’s are specifically designed to heal themselves, and have unlimited capacity for healing, as long as we can take away the restrictions, which hinder this healing process. By becoming part of your own health maintenance programme you will unlock your true potential.
Many clients, once they have resolved their initial problem, return to maintain their alignment, health and well-being, and receive a balance on a regular basis, usually monthly. Other clients return as and when they feel a need. We aim to teach you the importance of good alignment in the maintenance of good health, and to be able to read the signs your body gives you.
A regular ‘balance’ maintains good alignment and postural balance through the stresses imposed on your body through everyday living, to help you to reach and maintain your maximum levels of health, function and performance.
The main technique which we use to regain alignment and stability of a joint is known as Ligamentous Articular Balancing (LAB), which is a gentle technique that re-balances the tension of the ligaments and the soft tissues which surround and support a joint to gently realign it, returning it to its neutral position, negating the need for clicking or thrusting, which can often lead to further joint instability.
We also utilise acupressure, and reflex therapy to release energy blockages, that can help bring the body back into good health.
The techniques we utilise within the treatment were developed by Dennis Bartram following 50 years of research and training on body mechanics and Biotensegrity, including training in Osteopathy, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Chiropractic manipulative reflex technique (CMRT), Applied Kinesiology, Neural Manipulation, Visceral manipulation, Cranial balancing, and years of personal tuition by Japanese Osteopath and teacher of Traditional Japanese Medicine Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi.
